Thinking of Switching From Books to eReaders?

eReaders are said to be the alternative to books. Electronic gizmos replacing my hand held tactile joy? Books are one of my preferred solitary treats. They're right up there with soft serve ice cream on a sizzling hot day and a glass of warm mulled wine with a snug and comfy fireplace while the wind howls outside. And let me not forget the blissfulness of breathing in the aroma of jasmine in the spring and listening to nostalgic old music.

When reading a 'real book' - that old fashioned pages thing, I have always indulges in the sensory pleasures of the act. I will hold the book in my hands and slide my fingers across the sleek cover before opening it and take in that smell of fresh print on paper. Then, with a comfort dripped sigh, I begin the prologue about to start my literary journey.

Ahead of that start of a book, I again take some more time to explore the sensory gifts in my hand. I fan out the pages and take in fresh print smell once again, I then take the first page and smooth out it with my fingers . The teasing foreplay ahead of a good read is an integral aspect of the entire experience.

So consider my reaction when told about electronic books. Ereaders that screen each page? I was horrified. I had to wonder how any book lover could even entertain an idea so hideous. I have all my rituals, my tactile joys - so how could anyone, and certainly me, ever consider the thought of an eReader - it was insane!

They say - beware - that which you resist, persists. In my case, my fear of e-books was challenged with a thoughtful son buying Mommy a Kindle. To feign pleasure was hard enough. To actually use the thing to please my son was even harder. Not being able to enjoy my little book reading rituals was tough going and honestly, it did take me awhile to get into this whole electronic reader stuff. Grudgingly, over time, the convenience of the features and portability had me actually liking it.

Shopping on the Kindle was, without doubt, the real key to my heart. To be able to access titles any place I might be, was very addictive. I can preview thousands of books, get to read the first three pages and determine whether I want to purchase. Also, there are over one million expired copyright books that you can have for free.

Another feature that I'm taking pleasure in is having the ability to carry it with me just about everywhere (it's very light-weight), giving me instantaneous access to almost everything I decide to read right at that moment.

Do I miss my 'real books'? I'd be lying if I said I didn't occasionally feel the urge to pick up a nice weighty bestseller. And I do. It's a treat - kind of like a long lazy Sunday drive...something you do occasionally but not everyday. In a way, it makes it that much more special..just like listening to those old songs.

If the thought of taking an eReader to hand is repulsive, consider that the possibility may exist that could be one of those things that you might enjoy and could be missing out on. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Ahead of purchasing eReaders online, make sure you take a look at kindle-vs-nook.org for and get the info you need.
