Kindle Vs Nook- EInk and Color Readers Square Off

The ebook reader has become a very popular item in the last two or so years. It's popularity, however, has skyrocketed in 2011 and 2012. What's the best ebook reader for the new 2012 year? It's a good idea to compare the two most popular models on the market, the Kindle vs. Nook. Let's take a look at the differences between these two ereaders.

You need to first consider if you want a color ebook reader or an e-ink reader.

Color ereader tablets are back lit devices, so they will have a much shorter battery life on one charge. However, the added features are above and beyond a basic ebook reader. You can watch video, play games, read color magazines, and more. However, the reading experience is diminished in bright sunlight, and can be straining on the eyes.

For the person who just wants to read books and not have to carry around the bulky printed versions anymore, the E-Ink reader is a great idea. It will last for up to 2 months on a single battery charge, and is gentler on the eyes than the printed word!

The Kindle vs. Nook

For e-ink readers, Barnes and Noble has the Nook Simple Touch. It has page turn buttons, as well as is controlled with a touch e-ink screen. The device allows for up to 1,000 books storage, but can be expanded with an SD card.

The Kindle Touch is fully touch operated, with a home button in the middle bottom of the device. There are no other buttons.

Two big differences between the Kindle Touch and Nook Simple Touch are the way the devices handle memory expansion, and international coverage. Kindle users can use the Cloud Drive at no charge for Amazon content to expand their memory. Nook Simple Touch users must purchase an SD card, however, they do not need to have internet access for this. The Kindle can be used internationally also, and the Nook cannot.

The Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet are the top ereader tablets on the market and compete closely in performance and features. Both are robust full color devices that differ in the same way as the eink models, with the Kindle allowing for international coverage and the Nook Tablet only working in the United States.

The Kindle vs Nook battle has increased dramatically in the last year. New models are competing for the top spot and both brands have a loyal following. I recommend checking out a side-by-side video to really get a sense of the differences between the two.
