A brief introduction to the new Apple iPad2

Now that Android 3.0 tablets are lastly hitting shelves and the BlackBerry PlayBook and HP TouchPad are getting ready for battle, the tablet war is finally heating up. But here comes the apple iPad 2, which just isn't only slimmer and lighter than its forerunner but also adds a dual-core processor and two cameras. And so is Apple still one step in front of the competition?

The iPad 2 stands out as the MacBook Air of tablets. With a weight of 1.34 lbs and measuring 0.34 ins thick, the iPad 2 is 33 percent slimmer and about 15 percent more lightweight than the iPad. It's also considerably lighter than the Motorola Xoom (1.6 pounds). The best improvements to the style are the cameras on the front over the screen (VGA) and the rear (720p). You also get the selection of black and white color selections.

Available in polyurethane and much more luxurious leather in numerous colors, Intelligent Covers have built-in magnets that will quickly attach with the iPad 2 if you bring them close to the left edge. Folding the Intelligent Case up into a triangle enables you to support your iPad 2 for simpler typing, and then it is possible to flip it to produce a far more stand-like position, ideal for playing a slideshow or looking at a recipe in the kitchen.

Apple didn't need to do a great deal to remain in the tablet lead, however it has undoubtedly done enough to create much more distance between itself and the remainder of the field. The thinner, lighter iPad 2 raises the bar for design.

And although the new dual-core cpu didn't blow us away, it offers a noticeable performance increase whilst producing resource-hungry apps such as iMovie truly feel buttery smooth. The camera quality isn't wonderful, there's no 4G, and iOS could do a far better job with notifications as we'll hopefully see in iOS5.
